Late in the afternoon, after a huge fight with longtime sworn enemy Adrian Montague, Norman Frierson yelled angrily in the park and cried on a bench. As his grandfather Franklin saw him, he knew Norman was upset. He went up to Norman and said, "Norman, my boy, you look upset. What's the matter? Why are you crying?"

Norman looked at Franklin with angry tears in his eyes and said, "Grandpa, I never thought you'd ask. Adrian Montague is a pretentious brat! He made me angry for no reasons! He cheated on a math test with a key, the teacher didn't believe me and he picked on me all the time! He accused me of things I never did and he also called me names! I'd rather run than play with Adrian!" Norman yelled. He banged his fists on the bench in anger. As for Esther herself, she also knew that Norman was upset.

She hugged Norman and told him, "There, there, dear. It's not your fault." "It's not?" He asked sobbingly. "No, of course not. It was Adrian. He hurt your feelings and he picked on you." Esther said as she consoled him tenderly. "Grandma, If you and Grandpa were both here for me and to protect me from Adrian, you would confront him in a serious way. I would've had one other to defend me from him, but I didn't!" Norman sobbed and started to cry loudly. Franklin and Esther hugged Norman lovingly and kissed him.

However, Adrian Montague was very angry when he saw Norman with his grandparents. He did not realize he made him cry and accused him wrongfully of things he did not do. He scuttled off as Norman glared at him through the gap in Esther's arms. "Norman, we're going home." Esther helped Norman up and took him home with them. "Where do you think you're going, yeah?" Adrian yelled as Norman went away. Norman glared at Adrian. "Leave me alone!" he shouted. He left with his grandparents, but Adrian wouldn't give in without a fight. "You don't run when I talk to you!" Adrian yelled again. "YOU COME BACK HERE, BOY!!!" They were gone already. "Darn it!" Adrian cursed. "He's dead at school when we come back on Monday!" He did not know that was so not going to happen. He just went home in anger as the sun began to set.
